The Surf Nation Veo Goal of the Year is annually announced at the Surf Summit in January. The next year’s 2025 battle has been heating up on social media channels this Spring. Every week, it seems that a new contender arrives on the scene, and our LinkedIn page is becoming a discussion forum for which goal deserves the upcoming honor. Even though it’s the start of April, it’s well worth taking a step back and looking at the moments of sheer quality that our Surf players have delivered so far this season.

Let’s take a look at the top three.

Contender #1
The first contender that lit up social media channels was a goal scored by Milan Saman for East Bay Surf 2008 Boys. It’s not just the possession here that catches the eye with this goal, it’s the speed and tempo of the build from one end of the pitch to the other. Yes, Milan Saman finished from close range, but only seconds before he was a supporting option on the halfway line and makes an incredible run to put himself in position for a routine finish. You can watch the goal below.

Contender #2
Another outstanding goal arrived on social media was scored by Julian Sevilla from Folsom Lake Surf 06/07B team. It’s certainly a different type of goal from the East Bay ‘high tempo possession’ goal, but a serious contender nonetheless. This goal is unique in the sense that it comes from a long through and is a strike on the half-volley from a seemingly impossible angle. Historians of the game have compared it to Marco Van Basten’s strike for Netherlands in 1988 where the legendary Dutch striker completely took the goalkeeper by surprise with his volley in the European Championships final. You can watch the goal below.

Contender #3
The third contender that took social media by storm was scored by Daniel Torres from Monterey Surf 2012B last week. It comes from an outswinging corner where the ball seems to hang in the air for quite some time before reaching the penalty box. Then, just as you are expecting an aerial duel, Daniel Torres produces an acrobatic bicycle kick to smash the ball into the net. Again, the goalkeeper seems to be taken by surprise, but can you really blame him?! How many players have you seen even attempt this level of skill from a corner kick?! You can watch the goal below.

Although we will all have our different opinions on which one will be the winner, we can all agree on the quality that our Surf teams are displaying this Spring. It’s a proud time to be a part of our community and watching this generation of players make the headlines.
