Surf Nation is comprised of like-minded coaches and administrators dedicated to our Surf mission to provide the best experiences and opportunities for their athletes. Since 2024, Reading Rage Surf has been a proud partner of Surf Nation, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the partnership. We have watched their amazing club grow and seen them take full advantage being a part of the Surf brand.

We sat down with Sean Murphy from Reading Rage Surf to learn more about how Surf has helped their club, players, coaches, and administrators with their upcoming season goals:
What is the greatest benefit to Reading Rage Surf being part of the Surf Nation community?
The Surf pathway provides our players with a platform that extends beyond our local environment, giving them access to additional opportunities at a national level. It allows us to highlight players within our club who are looking to push themselves further, while also creating opportunities for our teams to compete in high-level events.
Beyond competition, one of the most valuable aspects has been the ability for our coaches and players to connect with other Surf clubs across the country. Building those relationships and sharing ideas across different regions has been extremely beneficial and continues to elevate our overall standard as a club.
Reading Rage Surf was just recently accepted into MLS Next for the 2026/2027 season - how do you envision this shaping your club, players, and families moving forward?
The addition of the MLS Next Academy Division is a major step forward for our club and our region. It allows us to continue guiding players along a clear and structured pathway within Reading Rage Surf, while providing access to the highest level of competition available in our area.
One unique aspect of this opportunity is that our players can compete at a top national level while still participating in high school soccer. In our community, high school soccer is extremely meaningful, and balancing both is very important to our families.
This also creates something for our younger players to aspire to. It reinforces that there is a pathway within our club from the youngest ages through our oldest teams. From a development standpoint, we are especially excited about the increased visibility it provides for our older age groups but also recognize the hard work we have in front of us.
We are quickly moving towards the end of the Spring season, what are some highlights from this season for your club?
From an individual standpoint, we’ve had a couple of boys’ players earn opportunities to train with the Philadelphia Union, which is always a great reflection of the work being done at both the player and club level.
From a team perspective, several of our teams have performed well and won at major showcases this season. More importantly, we’ve seen consistent improvement across all age groups in both performance and competitiveness. It’s rewarding to see the collective efforts of our players, coaches, and staff reflected in the teams’ on-field success and in the continued growth of our players as student-athletes.
