Surf Nation is comprised of like-minded coaches and administrators dedicated to our Surf mission to provide the best experiences and opportunities for their athletes. Since 2025, East Coast Surf has been a proud partner of Surf Nation, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the partnership. We have watched their amazing club grow and seen them take full advantage being a part of the Surf brand.

We sat down with Jerome Barberio from East Coast Surf to learn more about how Surf has helped their club, players, coaches, and administrators with their upcoming season goals:

What is the greatest benefit to East Coast Surf being part of the Surf Nation community?

The greatest benefit of being part of the Surf Nation community is the access it provides to a global network of elite players, coaches, and resources. It allows our players to experience the game beyond their local environment—whether through national events, international opportunities, or collaboration across Surf clubs. Just as importantly, it reinforces a shared standard of excellence. Being part of Surf pushes our club to continuously raise the bar in player development, coaching education, and overall professionalism.

Your club has found a ton of success in both the ECNL and ECNL-RL platforms. How has your participation in this league shaped your club? What are your expectations as we move towards postseason play?

Competing in ECNL and ECNL-RL has been instrumental in shaping the identity of our club. These platforms demand consistency, discipline, and a commitment to long-term player development. Week in and week out, our players are challenged against top-level competition, which accelerates their growth and prepares them for the next level.

As we move into postseason play, our expectations are clear—we want to compete at the highest level while staying true to our style and standards. Success for us is not just results-driven; it’s about demonstrating our identity, competing with intensity, and continuing to develop players who can perform in high-pressure environments.
As of today we expect to have our B2010 and B2011 in the ECNL Champions League. Our B2010 & B2012 are a lock to qualify for ECRL regional playoffs with the B2009s and B2011s still in contention. Our girls will have the G2008, G2009, G2011, G2012, and G2013 all qualify for the ECRL regional playoffs.

East Coast Surf recently had 5 players called into the El Salvador Youth National Team ID Center, a player named to the ODP National Team, and several players signing to play in college. What does East Coast Surf do to provide opportunities like this for their players?

Opportunities like these are the result of a deliberate and structured approach to player development. We focus on creating an environment where players are consistently challenged, supported, and exposed to the right platforms. Our staff works closely with players and families to guide them through pathways that include identification programs, college recruitment, and national team opportunities.

We also prioritize visibility—ensuring our players are competing in the right leagues, attending the right events, and being seen by the right people. Combined with a strong internal culture that emphasizes accountability and growth, it allows our players to position themselves for success at the highest levels.

We are quickly moving towards the end of the Spring season, what are some highlights from this season for your club?
This Spring has been a strong reflection of the progress we’re making as a club. Across multiple age groups, we’ve seen teams competing at a high level within ECNL and ECNL-RL, along with continued success in league play and showcases. Beyond results, one of the biggest highlights has been the individual development of our players—their confidence, decision-making, and understanding of the game have all taken significant steps forward.

Additionally, seeing players earn recognition at the national team level, ODP, and commit to college programs has been a major point of pride. It reinforces that what we’re building is working—not just in terms of team success, but in creating real pathways for our players’ futures.
