Surf Nation is comprised of like-minded coaches and administrators dedicated to our Surf mission to provide the best experiences and opportunities for their athletes. Since 2024, Oregon Surf has been a proud partner of Surf Nation, and we have thoroughly enjoyed the partnership. We have watched their amazing club grow and seen them take full advantage being a part of the Surf brand.

- What is the greatest benefit to Oregon Surf being part of the Surf Nation community?
Being part of Surf Nation connects us to a larger purpose. We have access to tools, leadership, and a shared identity that pushes us to hold a higher standard, not just in how we coach, but how we operate across the entire club. It also gives our players and families a clear pathway from entry-level soccer to elite platforms like Surf Select, ECNL, and MLS Next. For a club like ours, it’s important to feel supported while still building something that’s authentic to Oregon.
- What are some club highlights from the 2024/2025 season that have stood out so far?
We’ve had a strong year, both on and off the field. Some of the moments that stand out include the growth of our Development Academy, the number of players attending ID camps and showcases, and the consistent performance of our teams across local and national events. This year we have had the most players invited to the ECNL Player Showcase games, we have two teams so far that have qualified for ECNL post season play, one of which will be in the Champions League and we may have a third team qualify. On the Boy’s side our top 2010 team won the Man City Cup and Las Vegas Players Showcase. On both the girls and boys side we have had many players invited to the Surf National White Team and Blue Team – the most out of any club in our region. We’ve added more than 20 licensed USSF coaches across our programs, including A, B, and C license holders. Our staff now includes former collegiate, professional, and international players who bring real experience into training sessions and player conversations. That depth of knowledge has helped us build trust with families and made us a destination for both players and coaches.
- Oregon Surf has been accepted into MLS Next’s new competition tier for the 2025/2026 season on the boys’ side. How does this affect the future of Oregon Surf?
This gives our players the chance to compete at the highest level in the country and keeps us aligned with the top development environments nationally. It also raises the bar across the club. We now have the ability to showcase our players to MLS scouts, national team coaches, and top college programs, without them needing to leave the state. It’s a big moment for the club, and we’re focused on making sure our players, coaches, and staff are supported to meet the expectations that come with it.
- Looking towards tryouts ahead of the 2025/2026 season, what are some KPIs you are keeping track of and keeping in mind when identifying players at Oregon Surf?
We’re tracking individual player attributes like technical consistency, decision-making, and ability to read the game. We also look at growth potential—who’s ready to make the jump athletically to the next level and who needs more support and development.
