San Diego, CA., March 29, 2024— Surf Sports (San Diego, CA) proudly announces that San Diego Surf Point Loma is now officially SD Central Surf Soccer Club. In the world of youth sports, the Surf brand is renowned for professionalism, elite event management, high-quality coaching, and, most importantly, a deep commitment to player development, which has resulted in hundreds of All-American athletes and thousands of scholarships. Our mission is to create experiences and opportunities for kids, and we’re excited to continue this mission with the rebranding and expansion of SD Central Surf.
Effective immediately, San Diego Surf Point Loma, which has been under the San Diego Surf brand since its merger in 2019, will now become San Diego Central Surf. SD Central will now service all areas of Central San Diego with new training locations and sites to create new teams under the San Diego Surf banner and all the parent club offers.
SD Central Surf remains an extension of San Diego Surf Soccer Club as its first and only expansion club. SD Central Surf will continue to provide all of the resources for its players and coaches as San Diego Surf Soccer Club, but now also offer training and competitive teams based out of our current and new Central San Diego locations. We will service South of Del Mar, University City, La Jolla, Clairemont, Mission Bay, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Point Loma, Ocean Beach, Linda Vista, Mission Hills, and all other surrounding communities of Central San Diego.
Jason Donlon, our former Director of Coaching and GM, will now serve as the Executive Director, overseeing all of SD Central Surf while continuing to serve as the primary conduit between San Diego Surf Soccer Club. Jason will continue as Director of our Surf Select Southwest Regional Program and remain on staff with our Surf Select National Team for Surf Nation.
We are also excited to introduce Paul Holohan as the new SD Central Director of Coaching (DOC). Paul has extensive experience in the soccer world from the collegiate game to elite youth academies. He was recently the ECNL Boys Director at DMCV Sharks and Academy Director for Liverpool SoCal and Albion SC. Paul will manage the coaches and teams out of SD Central and is excited about this new opportunity and venture to bridge the gap between our national headquarters in Del Mar of San Diego Surf and all of Central San Diego.
“We believe San Diego Surf can improve the development process and pathway for more kids in San Diego by offering a central location. We believe our direct control of this organization will allow us to impact this market. While we recognize that San Diego is a unique market, we are certain that our resources, know-how, and pathways can make a difference.” said Bob Reiss, San Diego Surf GM. “We could not be more excited to expand our brand in San Diego.”
With the guidance of the San Diego Surf leadership team, SD Central Surf will continue to provide the best player development experience, pathway, and opportunities in the community. Being part of the Surf Nation network, SD Central Surf players and families will have access to additional support on and off the field to ensure we continue to offer experiences and opportunities to more players in the San Diego area.
Additionally, the top players from SD Central Surf will continue to have direct access to our Surf Select program, an unprecedented identification program built through Surf Nation. This program allows selected players to compete in the best international and domestic events, picking from a player pool that expands from Puerto Rico, Rhode Island to Hawaii and Canada.
